<p>The building frame has double angle iron members meeting at a node defined by thin gusset plate and the joint is made by welding the members to the gusset plate and by bolting metal plates to either side of the angle iron with ordinary tensile bolts. When the frame needs to be reinforced to take supplementary imposed loads, the plates are removed, and two further angle irons are bolted to the original members, either head to head or head to toe, using high tensile friction bolts tightened through the original holes to a defined pressure using a torque wrench.</p> |
