<p>Method and appts. are claimed for continuously coating a web of material, the appts. being designed to coat one surface of the web as it is carried past the coating station by a drum or roller, or alternatively to coat both surfaces by conveying the web vertically between two coating blades. In the latter case, one coated surface can travel past a dryer, the web then passes over a return roller so that the other surface can travel past a second dryer, the web being guided by a system of rollers and drums, including drive drums. The novel feature is that, in both systems, the applicator blade or blades are each mounted on a tube forming a supply tube for the coating material which is discharged from a slot along it. A smaller diameter pneumatic tube along the tip of the blade ensure a good, even contact. The appts. is particularly for paper or cardboard making.</p> |
