PURPOSE:To permit a single rolling mill to roll various kinds of rolled material, by making interchangeable the cluster roll including a small diameter work roll with a large diameter single work roll. CONSTITUTION:When the ordinary material is to be rolled, the single work roll possessing diameter similar to that of the lower work roll is used instead of the cluster roll 2. And the driving shaft 14 is connected to the upper work roll and both upper and lower work rolls are driven to rotate and to perform the rolling work. On the other hand, when the hardly workable material is to be rolled, the lower work roll 6 is remained as the driving roll, and the upper work roll 3 is made undriven, and also its diameter is made as small as possible. Moreover, since the modulus of rigidity degrades by making small the work roll diameter, the cluster roll type constitution is employed so as to back up the small diameter work roll with plural backup rolls. |
