The tape recorder control circuit has a master level controller (on/off fade control), for fading in and out an audio signal, and a stop controler for stopping and starting the tape. The master level controller is coupled to control logic such that the tape is stopped after the audio signal has been faded out and simultaneously a pretape signal is passed to the monitor output. The level controller operates a pause contact in its end position after the audio signal has been faced out. The pause contact causes the control logic to disconnect the level controller's earthing. The control logic opens a transistor switch between the level controller and earth.
