The system is intended for cleaning the wheels of a vehicle (15) as it leaves a building site. Before entering the public road way the vehicle is held on a roller bed (113), whilst the wheels are run at a speed sufficient to throw-off soil clinging to them. The wheels may be rotated by the power unit of the vehicle or by the rollers of the bed (16) around the wheels. Alternately the vehicle may be placed on a jacking platform provided with a mechanism which stops the vehicle and rotates its wheels.
