PURPOSE:To make highly precise detection of the defective feeding of sheet on the basis of the detection of the fact that a timer which is driven when a light detector detects a light blocking state resulting from the passage of a sheet is not reset within a predetermined period of time. CONSTITUTION:When a bank note is transferred from a store box 2 to a feeding system 4, a photoelectric detector S1 is rendered into a blocking state to render a delay timer operative. After the timer time is over, the blocking state S1 of the detector is checked. When the detector S1 is in a nonblocking state, it is determined that the bank note does not have the regular length, that is, it is a short note. When the detector S2 is in a blocking state while the detector S1 is in a nonblocking state, it is detected that the bank note is folded or there two or more overlapped bank notes. When the detector S3 is in a nonblocking state, the bank note is normal, and the detection of its central portion having a white pattern is made in the next step. |
