The vehicle safety belt system has a belt running from a rewinding mechanism through a guide fitting, fixed to the vehicle, and through a detachable part of a buckle to an anchor point on the vehicle. The guide fitting and the buckle part have slots for the belt and edges round which it runs and which absorb tension loads. These edges (6) on the buckle (4) and/or fitting are formed on ribs (7) shearing under a load occurring in dangerous conditions and the ribs are separated by openings (10) from a reserve edge (11) underneath.
