A scram unloading system for the core of a pebble pile reactor, esp. for a high-temp. reactor with spherical fuel elements, is based on a bilaterally water-cooled annular cavity below the reactor bottom. This is joined to the core by a network of radially descending straight pipes and breeches pipes. The bottom of the annular cavity is shaped to form an inverted V under each discharge opening, with an angle to suit the angle to repose of the pebbles. This ensures a simple distribution of the fuel elements over the annular space which promotes a uniform and intensive heat dissipation and increases the safety factor.
|
