The invention provides a weeding machine for weeding in the spaces between rows of crops planted in a field, comprising a plurality of weeding units mounted side-by-side in a spaced apart relationship on a rigid support, each weeding unit comprising cutters rotatable about vertical axes for cutting weeds below the surface of the soil and screened on each side thereof, by a separator panel, the adjacent separator panels of adjacent weeding units defining between them channels extending in the direction of movement of the machine whereby, in use, the machine is moved across the field with the weeding units disposed in the spaces between the rows of crops, and the crops themselves pass through said channels and are thereby protected from the cutters by the separator panels.
