<p>METHOD FOR FORMING A TIRE CARCASS HAVING AN OPENING The method of forming a tire carcass having a valve opening is provided by laying-up tire-forming material to form a tire carcass base having a valve opening; inserting a separating element into the valve opening; laying up reinforcing elements over the carcass base and separating element; moving the reinforcing elements overlaying the separating element laterally to a position immediately laterally adjacent the separating element and valve opening; fixing the reinforcing elements immediately adjacent the separating element; and removing the separating element from the resulting valve opening. The apparatus includes an assembly for use in positioning reinforcing elements in a tire carcass having an opening comprising a separating element having a first end portion having a first configuration and for inserting into an opening of a tire carcass base, a second end portion extending outwardly from the tire carcass base when the first end portion of the separating element is installed in the opening of the tire carcass base, the second end portion having a configuration arranged for use in urging overlaying reinforcing elements to preselected locations relative to the tire carcass opening.</p> |
