An upgrader variable pressure regulator for internal combustion engines and the like, comprising a vacuum chamber and an associated fuel chamber joined together to support an enlarged vacuum diaphragm on one side, and to encase and support a reduced fuel chamber diaphragm on the other side. Adjustments are provided in both the vacuum and fuel chambers to limit the travel of both diaphragm assemblies in respective linear directions toward and away from the vacuum or fuel chambers respectively. An adjustable spring in the vacuum chamber urges both diaphragms toward the fuel chamber. A fuel chamber needle diaphragm responds to pressures derived from both diaphragms and opens to admit greater quantities of fuel to the fuel chamber. A second spring in the fuel chamber urges the valve against a needle seat closing the flow of fuel to the fuel chamber when both diaphragms and associated clamp screws travel away from it. The changes in vacuum applied through a vacuum line attached to the inner manifold of the engine urges the larger diaphragm against its associated diaphragm spring to close the needle valve, when the vacuum is great, When engine vacuum drops, the large diaphragm spring overcomes the vacuum pressure to urge said diaphragm and an associated clamp screw toward the needle valve, opening it to increase the fuel entering the fuel chamber. In an alternative embodiment, a single diaphragm is utilized between the fuel and vacuum chambers.
|
