PURPOSE:To control the output of a gas laser device by applying an electric field or magnetic field to the discharge path of a gas discharge tube to deform it. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnet 21 is installed in the vicinity of the center of a discharge tube 1, a magnetic field 21c thus generated is set perpendicularly to the discharge electric field 1c. An amplifier 22 and a controlled power supply 23 are connected to an excitation coil 21b. The discharge path is bent by the magnetic field 21c to draw an arc 1d to occur the portion not contributed to the laser output of the discharge light. Therefore, the input control power supply of the amplifier 22 is set variable to alter the discharge path so as to control the laser output. In this configuration high voltage power supply is not necessary to be controlled, but the laser output can be controlled by an electromagnet separated from the high voltage system in large effect. An electrode is faced at the center instead of the magnet, and voltage is applied thereto to control the discharge path by the electric field to bent the path. |
