摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To improve fuel consumption, by controlling the output of engine through control of the intake-valve closing timing, and thereby making it unnecessary to control the amount of intake air through provision of a throttle valve and reducing the pumping loss. CONSTITUTION:Fuel is injected from an electronically controlled injection nozzle 3, with no need of providing a throttle valve in the intake pipe extended from air cleaner 1 to intake valve 2. The quantity of fuel to be injected is controlled by changing the timing for closing intake valve 2 considerably. As a valve moving means for changing the valve closing timing, there is used, for instance, a three-dimensional cam the profile of which is varied along the length of cam shaft, and the valve closing timing is controlled by shifting the cam shaft along the length thereof. With such an arrangement, it is made unnecessary to contract the intake passage by means of a throttle valve, so that fuel consumption can be improved by reducing the pumping loss.</p>
