Metal door for microwave oven - is manoeuvred in closing position by electric motor and lever system

A microwave oven door is constructed of metal to provide sealing for the microwaves. The weight is difficult to manoeuvre and in order to avoid damage due to mechanical shock an electric motor and lever system is used. An oven door (14) is moved by a lever (18) on which a pinion (30) engages with a rack gear (34) against a freewheel (32). The rack is firmly attached to a shaft (50) with a pulley (52) at the remote end. This pulley pushes against a cam (54) which is rotated by an electric motor (56). The cam thereby transfers the rotational movement into linear movement of the rack. The free wheel assembly provides a braking action to maintain the door position unless it is being manually operated.
