Travelling-wave tube with delay line - is positioned coaxial with flat cathode and anode in evacuated envelope

The travelling wave tube has a flat cathode and an anode defining an annular aperture, providing an electron beam generating system, which is enclosed by an evacuated envelope surrounding a delay line also enclosed by a vacuum. The cathode, the anode and the delay line all lie coaxially with their alignment effected via a reference marking carried by the surface of the cathode facing towards the anode. This marking pref. comprises a blind hole lying in the centre of the cathode surface. The vacuum envelope coupled to the delay line pref. has a thin-walled deformable section of copper sheet between the electron beam generating system and the delay line.
