The turbocharger has a casing which contains a shaft, whose one end carries a turbine driven by the exhaust gases, and the other end carries a compressor which delivers combustion air to the engine. The shaft is supported in bearings in the casing between the compressor and turbine. The axis of the turbocharger is inclined at a small angle to the vertical. The basically vertical arrangement allows the compressor to be bolted directly to the intake filter. The small inclination allows oil to flow out of the bearings without building up behind the turbine shaft seal.
