The ventilation system is particularly for living rooms and fireplaces etc. and has a housing with air inlet and outlet and curved guide face in between a wall as an adjustment for the free cross-sectional area. The adjusting member extends over the width of the housing, being pendulum-mounted clear of the guide face and deflected in dependence on the pressure difference between inlet and outlet. The member is a part-cylindrical sleeve (6) mounted on the cylinder axis (6) and having a radial wall (8) with an air opening (9). The air outlet (3) of the housing (1) is controlled by the cylinder sleeve, which acts as a rotary shutter.
