Cast or plastically deformably materials are used for the production of square panel units for covering ground or floors in heavily loaded transport routes or workshops, with high resistance to wear. The basic unit(A) has a pair of deeper-set, slightly conical(2), rounded (1) fishplates (C) on two opposite sides. They grip below the next tranverse panel to prevent individual panels from rising. Opposite panels are linked by stem pieces (B), leaving a hollow space for fishplates on the next panel. The panels are easily laid on old floors to form a cohesive, firm surface.
