PURPOSE:To provide colored gelatin coating useful for oral medicines, the solubility of which is not easily lowered with time and which contains caramel from which components having a MW of not more than 10,000 have been removed. CONSTITUTION:There is provided a colored gelating coating contg. caramel from which components having a MW of not more than 10,000 have been removed. Said methods of removing the components having a MW of not more than 10,000 include ultrafiltration, dialysis and gel filtration. The ultrafiltration is carried out in a usual manner, e.g. by diluting caramel 20-fold with distilled water and carrying out the ultrafiltration at a gas pressure of 3kg/cm<2> using an ultrafilter which can remove the components having a MW of not more than 10,000. In oder to separate low-molecular components well after filtration, distilled water is added, the caramel is repeatedly washed, and a solution contg. caramel is concentrated.
