<p>An arrangement processing analogue measurement signals first converts them into digital form for intermediate storage, and later converts them back to analogue form for visual display on a display unit or pen recorder. Higher reduction and conversion speeds are achieved without unduly increasing demand on converter performance. The analogue signals are intentionally distorted prior to conversion by multiplying the low signal values with higher gain than the high values. The distortion is subsequently removed on conversion back into analogue form by reversing the gain variation. The distortion and correction processes involve direct or inverse functions of non-linear exponential or quadratic form. The a-d and d-a converters are low resolution, e.g. 4-bit devices.</p> |
