A modular battery housing is designed to facilitate use with printed circuit cards. The housing (12) is formed a single thermoplastic moulding with two sides (11, 12), a back and an open front for insertion of the battery (4). The internal surface of the housing has two grooved recesses (13, 14) that provide a location for the contact inserts (2). Each contact insert projects beyond the front surface and has prongs that locate on the printed circuit card. The bottom section carries a spring loaded contact that applies a retaining force to the battery.
