PURPOSE:To obtain methacrolein and methacrylic acid in one stage, in high yield, by catalytic oxidation of isobutylene and/or tertiary butanol in the vapor phase with molecular oxygen, in the presence of an oxide composition as a catalyst highly active at a low temperature, e.g. Mo-V-P-Cu-As-Sn, etc. CONSTITUTION:Isobutylene or tertiary butanol or both are oxidized catalytically in the vapor phase with molecular oxygen or a gas containing molecular oxygen, in the presence of a composition of (Mo)a(V)b(P)c(Cu)d(As)e(X)f(O)g (X is tin, lead, cerium, cobalt, iron, zirconium, thorium, tungsten, germanium, nickel, rhenium, bismuth, antimony, etc.; a, b, c, d, e, f and g are atomic ratios of element respectively, and when a=10, b,d and e are less than 3 except 0; c is 0.5-6; f is 0-3) as a catalyst, especially one having a heteropoly-acid structure. |
