In epoxy resin, (A), prepn. by epichlorohydrin, (I), and diphenylolpropane, (II), polycondensn., the components and 0.5-4 wt.% alkali, w.r.t. (I), are left to stand in a solvent at 45-70 degrees C to form a homogeneous compsn. before polycondensn. 45-50 wt.% alkali, w.r.t. (I), is then added to the homogeneous compsn. and polycondensn. is effected with stirring at 70-90 degrees C until the end prod. is obtd. The resins are used as casting resins, adhesives, in paints and powders. Initial monomer homogenisation in the presence of alkali catalyst forms a highly concn. compsn using low solvent quantities. Loss of (I) is reduced.
