The electric motor has a motor housing with cooling-air inlets and cooling-air outlets (25) and a rotor shaft (10) mounted in the motor housing and having a rotor (9) and a fan wheel (14). The fan wheel (14) is provided directly next to a rotor-shaft bearing (15) arranged in the motor housing. The rotor-shaft bearing (15) has cooling passages (19) which start from the outside of the motor housing and run in the direction of the fan wheel (14). The fan wheel (14) draws in a first cooling-air flow which cools the motor and a weaker second cooling-air flow which is opposed to the first cooling-air flow and passes through the cooling passages (19) of the rotor-shaft bearing (15). <IMAGE>
