PURPOSE:To prepare a glycidyl ester, useful as a raw material of powder coating material and epoxy resin, in high qualities and yield, by the ester exchange reaction of an ester of an organic carboxylic acid and a lower alcohol with glycidol in the presence of an alkali halide as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A high-quality glycidyl ester is prepared in high yield and conversion, with suppressed side-reactions, by the ester exchange reaction of an organic carboxylic acid lower alcohol ester of the formula (R1 is aromatic, cycloaliphatic, aliphatic group, etc.; R2 is 1-5C alkyl; n is an integer of 1-6), excluding methyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate, with glycidol, using an alkali halide, pref. chloride, bromide and/or iodie of solium and/or potassium, as a catalyst. The catalyst can be easily separated and receovered from the reaction mixture, and is easily handleable and available easily and economically. |
