The waste heat from the heating system of indirectly heated melt kilns is recovered in a heat exchanger for the fresh air entering the heating unit. The heat exchanger receives both the waste gases from the melt kiln and the flue gases from the heating boiler. This compensates for the 20% extra heat required for indirect heating of melt kilns, yet avoids the risk of care-inogenic nitrosamines in the malt which may be produced by direct heating. Fresh air passes through a heat exchanger (1) and a heating unit (2) before a ventilator (3) passes the hot air through the malt kiln (4). A heating boiler (5) with a blower and burner (7) which supplies the heating medium to the heating unit (2) is linked with the duct (6) for its flue gases to the waste gas duct from the melt kiln. The combined gas stream loses its heat in the heat exchanger (1) before it is discharged to atmosphere.
|
