In a method and apparatus for forming stiffened flexible, collapsible containers two layers of flexible sheet material (10, 12) are passed through a sealing die (20), with a continuous length of stiffener bar (24) positioned therebetween, the sealing die seals the two layers to one another along lines to define a group of collapsible containers, each carrying the stiffener bar in transverse relation thereto, and at least one of the layers and the continuous stiffener bar are cut through at positions adjacent the edges of the containers, to permit separation of formed containers, carrying separated stiffener bar sections, from each other. Cutting of the stiffener bar is effected inwardly of side edges of each container and cut- away edge portions of the stiffener bar are removed so that each remaining stiffener bar section does not extend across the entire width of the container. <IMAGE> |
