PURPOSE:To ensure a longer life of laser medium gas by a method wherein decomposed carbon monoxide and oxygen are made to react again with each other under the aid of a catalyst of electrolytic silver to form carbon dioxide. CONSTITUTION:A part of the carbon dioxide gas, contained by a laser medium gas flowing from an electric discharge gap 6, has been decomposed by a chemical reaction by a glow discharge into carbon monoxide and oxygen. A catalytic action takes place as a silver gauze wire 18 is contacted by the carbon monoxide and the oxygen while hot, so that the carbon monoxide and the oxygen are recombined to become carbon dioxide gas. The increase of the oxygen concentration is restrained by this catalytic reaction so that the life of the gas is prolonged. |
