<p>A battery charging system includes an alternator (10) with a rectifier (12,13) connecting the alternator output to the battery (14). A voltage rectifier (15) controls the current in the alternator field winding (11) in accordance with the battery voltage. A transistor switch (23) in the voltage regulator controls the bias currentto the output stage of the regulator and is in turn controlled by a differential amplifier (34,35)through a diode pump (40,41,42,44). The differential amplifier (34,35) is connected to detect the presence of an a.c. on one phase of the alternator and causes the transistor to be switched off, disabling the output stage of the regulator, whenever no a.c. signal is present.</p> |
