Production of acrylic resin plates in which upper and lower endless belts (1,1'), e.g. 1500 mm wide, run parallel to one another at 0.5-4.0 m/min, and thin acrylic resin film, transparent or with a printed pattern, is supplied onto the top stretch of the upper belt after a coater (17), e.g. a methacrylate polymer brush unit, has coated this belt's surface. Monomer or partially polymerized acrylic resin is supplied by a gear pump (5) and injector (6) to between the belts, causes partial swelling and dissolution of the film, then is made integral with the film in a 1st polymerization zone (18) where sprayers (8) spray the backs of the belts with water at 60-95 degrees C, and then is polymerized by heating to 115-120 degrees C by Ir heaters (9) in a 2nd polymerization zone (19). The material is then cooled in 1st and 2nd cooling zones to =105 degrees C, pref. 100-80 degrees C, and then removed from the system. The process is continuous and large plates are easily produced.
|
