The harvesting machine has an adjustable lifting share, and a spoked wheel behind which is a transported belt. The share (18) is mounted on a frame (3), the latter also supporting a vertical disc (39) situated behind and to one side of the share. The spoked wheel is situated adjacent the disc and is motor driven at a tangential speed greater than the forward speed of the machine. The disc and/or the wheel are inclined to form a V-shaped channel. The machine is for harvesting endives and other pivoting roots, the root being pulled with the soil around it. The soil is removed in an upward and rotating motion without damaging the crop.
