A method of controlling the quality of the drilling mud consisting in continuously measuring, during the process of preparation of the drilling mud, its pH and the character of change of the latter, the homogenity degree of the drilling mud and the degree of its desintegration being evaluated depending on the change of its pH, the affinity of the solid phase to a certain group of minerals being ascertained depending on the character of change of the pH of the drilling mud.
