The process is used for preparing and coating seeds in accordance with their size and shape. The seeds are first separated into large or small, flat or round categories, and each separate category is dampened and coated with the predetermined coating. Then all categories are remixed for bulk drying. The categories containing the smallest seeds, the flat seeds or the least voluminous have the coarsest coating to provide high porosity. Those categories having the largest seeds, the rounded seeds or the largest volume have a finer and less porous coating.
