<p>A safety chute includes an outer flexible tube which is elastically deformable in a transverse direction (e.g. modulus of elasticity 30 kgm/cm2) and an inner flexible tube of slightly smaller transverse dimension than, and located freely within the outer tube. The inner tube is inextensible in the longitudinal direction and is pref. formed from a woven fabric having the warp (e.g. acrylic, aromatic polyamide, glass filaments) extending longitudinally of the inner tube. Both ends of the tubes are open and the chute is supported in e.g. a vertical position on e.g. a building so that a person can fall to the ground through the chute. The retarding action of the chute on the person slows the person down sufficiently that he is not hurt. The inner tube prevents longitudinal stretching of the chute as a person moves through it, thereby providing a better retarding action.</p> |
