The instrument comprises a cylindrical body one end of which is inserted into the vagina of the animal. One end of the body has a rigid extension in the shape of a helix which enters the vagina and has an orifice at the distal end. A hollow tube slides axially in instrument and has one end extending beyond the end of the extension and one end positioned in a reservoir of semen at the proximal end of the instrument. The cylindrical body has a graduated scale marked on it to indicate the position of the tube.
