Helicopter mounted cable winder - uses pneumatically controlled disc braking with explosive actuated guillotine for emergency release

The cable winder can be suspended from a hook on a helicopter for use in overhead cable erection and is intended to increase the safety of the operation. The cable winder uses a disc type braking system pneumatically controlled from the helicopter cockpit to allow control of the tension of the cable. In the event of the cable being snagged or the winder jamming the equilibrium of the helicopter may be endangered. An electrical signal from the helicopter cockpit can then actuate an electromagnetic bolt which detonates an explosive to operate a guillotine which cuts the cable.
