PURPOSE:To join webs without damage on the surfaces of the webs and to prolong the life of cutting knife by a method wherein a web guide transfer means and an end part cutting means are arranged in parallel on the same moving bed and used by alternately changing them. CONSTITUTION:When the end part of web (old web)1 which is unwound approaches, the approach is detected to stop the web 1. The web 1 is fixed between a joining drum 5 and a clamp roller 37 and between the clamp roller 37 and a fixed roller 15. A movable knife 4 is lifted. The end part of the old web 1 is cut off by means of a cutting edge 4b and a stationary blade 17. The top part of a new web 2 is cut off by means of a cutting edge 4c and the stationary blade 17. Then an elevator is lifted along a guide 12, and positioned at a position shown by the chain line. The top of the new web 2 is coincided with the end part of the old web 1. Then the joining drum 5 is synchronized with a feed roller 13. The new and old webs are moved to the left side, a butting part is fed to a joining position P, and the old web is joined to the new web by pasting on both webs by an adhesive tape provided on the joining drum 5, followed by a resumed wind-up operation to a a wind-up part. |
