The bristles (3) which are held clamped in between the arms (4) of the U-section socket of the brush element are manufactured so that their finished length equals the single bristle length of the finished brush element (1) whereupon the bristles are fixedly connected together e.g. by welding or gluing at their ends facing the socket. The welded ends now form a thickened bead which can be securely fixed in the socket without the need for any binding wire previously used to tie round the doubled up bristle lengths. Pordn. costs can be reduced by half.
