<p>The heavy duty castor has a flat profile, hard rubber tyre (4) supported on inner and outer bearings (9, 10) on a sprung axle. This has concentric metal tubes (6, 7) between which is a compressed rubber insert. This provides sufficient springing to give a quiet operation as well as to reduce wear. The tyre is bonded to a metal shell (8) whose outer edges are pressed into bearing races. The outer ends of the outer tube of the axle are also pressed into bearing races, for a simple location of the bearings. To assemble the castor the bearings are fitted with profiled packing rings (11, 12) braced on the axle tube.</p> |
