The process applies to the high pressure transfer of liquid containing solid materials, for example a coal suspension in oil under the pressure of a hydrous reactor by at least a transfer tank (5, 6). The transmission power (4) is exerted by means of an auxiliary liquid (21) adapted to be readily pumped, for example water. As soon as the liquid (22) reaches a predetermined lower level (18) in the transfer tank (5, 6), the auxiliary liquid is removed from the tank (5, 6). The tank is refilled up to the point where the liquid to be transferred (22) has reached a predetermined upper level (19). With such process, the liquid containing solid materials is not brought into contact with moving parts of a pump which would result in considerable wear of the equipment.
