PURPOSE:To continuously, rapidly and accurately measure the sulfur amount in molten iron by determining the sulfur amount by the temperature of molten iron and the electromotive force between the cell electrode formed by the molten iron and the material of a fixed sulfur potential. CONSTITUTION:A standard electrode 3 of a fixed sulfur potential and a sulfide solid electrolyte 2 comprising adding 0-5% of La2S3 of rare earth sulfides to CaS of alkaline earth metal sulfides are held inserted into a heat-resistant pipe 4 and a cell with the electrode 3 and molten iron as its electrodes is formed. The interelectrode electromotive force of the cell is detected stably at high response by way of lead wires 5, 6. On the other hand, the temperature of the molten iron is detected by the thermocouple 7 in a silica tube 8 and if the detection values of these are processed based on Nernst's formula, the sulfur amount in the molten metal may be continuously, rapidly and accurately measured without making analysis. |
