Mercury contact and method of manufacturing same

A mercury contact suitable for use in switching apparatus comprises a solid metal base of antimony, wetted with mercury. The method of manufacturing the mercury contact includes preparing the solid metal base by electrolytic deposition of antimony onto the substrate, and subsequently coating the antimony with a layer of mercury.
