A bearing shell is first shaved in a shaving machine along the parting line edge surfaces of the shell and then broached or bored to machine the inner cylindrical surface of the shell. A distance having a known relation to the parting line height of the shell is measured while the shell is clamped in the broaching or boring machine and the value of the distance obtained, or an average of a plurality of values from successive shells, is used to control the setting of the shaving machine. <IMAGE> |
