1496508 Veneering SCHERING AG 6 Dec 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 52962/74 Heading B5L [Also in Division C3] An adhesive composition comprises (1) 20 to 70 wt. per cent of a polyamide resin obtainable by polymerizing (a) 0À5 to 0À8 equivalents of a polymeric fat acid of 70 to 100% dimer content, (b) 0À2 to 0À5 equivalents R(COOH) 2 where R is C 4 - 10 alkylene, (c) 0 to 0À6 equivalents ethylene diamine and (d) 0À4 to 1À0 equivalents piperazine, the equivalents of (a) + (b) being substantially equal to those of (c) + (d), and (2) 30 to 80 wt. per cent of an inorganic filler. Specification 1,175,458 is acknowledged and the proportion of filler used in the present invention is indicated to have economic advantages. Specified fillers are chalk and barytes. The composition may also include other thermoplasts; e.g. different polyamide or ethylene polymers, other resins, e.g. rosin esters or phenol or ketone resin; plasticizers, e.g. sulphonamides; antiageing agents; dyestuffs or pigments; and antioxidants, e.g. di-(octylphenyl)amine. The composition is useful as a fusible adhesive especially for bonding wood veneer or plastic edging strips to wooden substrates in furniture manufacture. Specified edging materials are maple or teak veneer, melamine- or urea-formaldehyde resin, polyester, PVC or ABS polymer. The edged substrate may be lacquered and dried. |
