PURPOSE:An antidiabetic agent usable by oral administration, comprising an extract, obtained from Chikusetsu-Ninjin(rhizomes of Panax Japonicus C.A. Meyer), as an active constituent. CONSTITUTION:An antidiabetic agent comprising an extract containing 3% or more, preferably 6% or more, of beta-D-glucopyranosyloleanate-(3)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl (1 2)-beta-D-glucurono-pyranoside (common name: chikusetsususaponin V or ginsenoside-Ro), obtained by immersing Chikusetsu-Ninjin (vhizomes of Panax Japonicus C.A. Meyer) in water or an hydrophilic organic solvent, as an active constituent. The agent is inexpensive compared with insulin, and the oral dose is 400-1,000mg a time per adult and 2-3 times a day. |
