PURPOSE:To fill an active material uniformly without causing it to leak from a clad tube, by filling a slurry active material in a clad tube and treating the outside of the tube with dilute sulfuric acid. CONSTITUTION:A slurry active material 7 of lead powder 2 and a mixture solution 4 of water and water-glass is metered to a filling hopper 11 from a stirring mixer 5. The filling hopper 11 is placed on the container 10 for treatment with dilute sulfuric acid, in which is placed a clad tube 8 holding a lead electrode 9 therein. The slurry active material 7 is filled into the clad tube 8. The clad tube is treated with shower 12 of dilute sulfuric acid having specific gravity of 1.06-1.26 at 20 deg.C in the container 10, so that a thin film of silicic acid gel is formed and soldified on the surface. |
