PURPOSE:To surely prevent oil leakage and seal up a shaft with high reliability, by providing circumferential grooves on the side faces of oil deflectors of an oil seal labyrinth. CONSTITUTION:An annular oil seal labyrinth 5 is provided around a rotary shaft 3. Oil deflectors 6 are fitted on the inside surface of the labyrinth and provided with a plurality of circumferential projections 7 of triangular cross section. The tips of the deflectors 6 are located at a minute distance g from the peripheral surface of the rotary shaft 3. Numerous grooves 9 are provided on the side faces 8 of the projections 7 so that the grooves continuously extend in the circumferential direction and the side faces 8 are jagged. This results in suppressing oil flow on the side faces of the oil deflectors and surely preventing oil leakage. A shaft seal of high reliability is thus provided. |
