Title compds. (I; R1, R2, R3, R4=H, lower alkyl; Ar=halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, thienyl- or halothienyl-substituted Ph; Z=O, S; n=1, 2; Y=halogen-, lower alkyl-, or lower alkoxy-substituted arom, heterocycle), useful as fungicide, were prepd. by reacting II (X=ZH, halogen) with III(W=ZH, halogen; W is different from X). Thus, 1.5 g 1-(2, 4-dichlorophenyl) -2-(1-imidazolyl)ethanol dissolved in absolute THF and 0.39 g sodiun hydride suspended in THF were heated to 70≦̸C for 90 min, and then 1.16 g 2-chloromethylthiophene was added to the cooled mixt., refluxed for 3hrs. at 70≦̸C to give white I.
