Elasticity of synthetic rope is reduced to a low final value by a heat-setting treatment where the rope is passed continuously through an oven under a constant tension, which is a function of the required final elasticity. The oven is of the 'tunnel' type, and has a double envelope casing which is heated by electrical resistances. The envelope is filled with glass wool insulation and clad with asbestos externally. The oven is inserted between two pulley systems for the rope, driven by hydraulic motors which are fed by a common variable feed hydraulic pump. The rope prod. of reduced elasticity is intended for use in caving and marine applications.
|
