PURPOSE:To obtain smooth finish faces, prevent the chipping of the circumferential edges of end faces and achieve the less number of working steps and easier work by applying thermal working to the end faces of optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:In the 1st process, the end faces of optical fibers are placed square on a heating plate. In the 2nd process, the end faces of the optical fibers are heated to the thermal deformation temperature of, e.g., about 80 deg.C. This heating temperature is suitably set according to the material constituting the optical fibers. In the 3rd process, the temperature of the heating plate is lowered down to room temperature to lower the end face temperature. Thereby, the smoothness of the flat faces may be additionally improved, the chipping of the circumferential edges prevented and the optical transmission characteristic improved. |
